An officer from the EACC Nyeri branch landed in trouble after his attempts to bribe an officer from DCI failed.
The EACC officer was arrested after attempting to bribe the DCI officer with Kshs200,000 so that he could not be taken to court in a land dispute case.
According to reports, the EACC officer fraudulently acquired the title deed of the piece of land, which belongs to his relative.
The suspect wanted the County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) Obed Mulunga to cover his crime so that he could not be taken to court.
The suspect is said to have visited Mulunga’s office and found him with two other officers but requested to talk to him in private.
The other officers left for the residential areas in Karatina to give the two officers some privacy.
The suspect then explained to Mulunga his intentions but the DCI officer secretly called back the two officers who had left the office.
The officers were then briefed of what was going on before being ordered to search the suspect and found him in possession of Kshs150,000.
During the recording of the inventory two men, who were later discovered to be the suspect’s colleagues in EACC offices, came to report about their aunt’s land but declined to provide their identities as witnesses.
The cash was confiscated by detectives and will be used as evidence in the case against the EACC officer.
