Former majority leader Aden Duale has strongly dismissed the recent opinion polls which ranked deputy president William Samoei Ruto ahead.
While speaking in a political rally, the former Majority leader claimed that the opinions were doctored and did not reflect the actual happenings on the ground.
The recent opinion polls released by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) showed Raila Odinga’s popularity rising ahead of the announcement of his candidature next month.
According to the poll, deputy president William Ruto is the candidate to beat in the looming 2022 general elections since he is way much ahead of potential presidential aspirants ranging from Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, KANU Chairman Gideon Moi and former prime minister Raila Odinga.
The poll showed Ruto enjoys a national support of about 38 percent, while Mr Odinga stands at 23 per cent, with Mr Mudavadi coming in at number three with 2 per cent. Both Mr Musyoka and Mr Moi have 1 per cent support across the country.
However, Aden Duale who could not stomach Raila Odinga’s rising popularity termed the scientific research as fake since it did not work in favor of DP Ruto.
The shocked Garissa town legislator maintained that any poll showing Raila in an upward trajectory is null, void, and misleading. To him, his boss Ruto was to lead as Raila’s ranking reduces to make such a poll credible.
At the same time, William Ruto’s national support declined by about one percentage point, from 39 per cent in June – when Tifa conducted its earlier opinion poll – to 38 per cent in November.
This is despite the many campaigns that he has held across the country and the numerous defectors that UDA has received from other political parties in the past months.
