There was drama in Bursa Province, Turkey when a missing man accidently joined his own search party for hours before realizing he was the one being looked for.
According to local media reports, Beyhan Mutlu had been on a drinking spree with some of his friends on Tuesday before losing his way into a forest in Bursa province.
His wife and friends alerted the local authorities when he failed to return home and a search party was immediately sent out.
50-year old Mutlu came across the search party and joined them in the search without knowing that he was the one who was being looked for.
After some time the search party began calling out his name.
“I am here,” Mutlu responded to the call.
At that instance, he was taken by one of the rescuers to record a statement
“Don’t punish me too harshly, officer. My father will kill me,” he reportedly told the rescuers.
Police then drove Mutlu home but it is not clear if he was given a fine.
Speaking in an interview after the incident, Mutlu blamed his friends for the misunderstanding.
“I am a construction worker in Inegöl. I came to Çayyaka to work in construction. I had a few drinks with some friends. I left them around 2 a.m. at night. We were staying at a friends’ villa in an area close to the construction site. I went to one of the villas and slept,” Mutlu explained.
“When one of my friends couldn’t find me, he reported me as missing to the gendarmerie. There really was no need for that,” he added.
Mutlu said that he had changed his phone number that why he could not be reached.
“I had changed my phone. That’s why the gendarmerie could not reach me when they called. I woke up at around 5 a.m. I thought there was an accident on the road. I saw the search party looking for a missing person. I also took part in the search,” Mutlu said.
