The office of the Deputy President William Ruto has denied claims that security guards in Ruto’s residences are being denied food.
According to Ruto’s Communications Secretary David Mugonyi, the security officers from the Administration Police Unit are provided with food.
“The only complaint I am aware of is delays to pay their allowances. Their welfare is catered by the Inspector general of police,” Mugonyi told the Nation newspaper.
Mugonyi further said that the officers are under the office of the inspector general of police and their welfare is catered for by the office.
This comes after reports emerged that the security officers in Ruto’s Karen residences, both the official and private one, were not being given food.
The ministry of Interior intervened and directed DP Ruto’s handlers to provide the officers with food or allocate them food allowances so that they can effectively carry out their responsibilities.
” This is to bring to your attention that the above officers have not been consistently provided with food rations or meal allowances to enable them to discharge their mandate effectively and efficiently,” Interior ministry Secretary Wilson Njenga said in a letter addressed to the principal administrative secretary in the office of the deputy president Abdul Mwaserah.
“This is in contrast to their counterparts from GSU whom they replaced and who used to get food rations The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to request that you reinstate the food rations for the officers currently deployed in the two residences for optimal service delivery,” the letter further read.
Ruto’s elite GSU security was withdrawn and replaced with the Administration police unit in August.
The changes were effected across all his residences and properties. According to the Inspector General of police, the changeover was a normal exercise.
Mugonyi however said the state was undermining the DP’s safety and termed the changes ‘diabolical’.
