Deputy President William Ruto celebrated President Uhuru Kenyatta in his speech during the Mashujaa Day Celebrations.
In the event that was held at Wang’uru stadium in Kirinyaga County, DP Ruto praised president Kenyatta as a transformational leader whose reputation and development agenda will guide his successors.
He however did not hesitate to mention his bottom-up approach while saying that it will drive the country together with president Kenyatta’s legacy.
“I assure you that as your deputy for nine years, your legacy and agenda and transformation of our nation together with the bottom-up approach will drive this country,” Ruto stated as the crowd cheered him.
He promised president Kenyatta that together with the opposition, they will work and champion for peace and posterity after he retirement in 2022.
“I want to give you the assurance that we will build on your legacy and ensure that the agendas you leave behind are not left uncompleted. We will work together as a people in a peaceful manner, respecting everyone’s rights and being tolerant with each other. Your legacy as a transformational leader will set standards for leaders who will come after you. Today, we celebrate you as our leader, your Excellency,” Ruto said.
Ruto also celebrated Kenyans who sacrificed for the country including police officers and Kenya Defence Forces who provide security and protect the borders respectively, as well as Kenyans who pay taxes lawfully.
“We celebrate all the people who paid a huge price for the nation we have today,” the DP said.
He as well thanked Kirinyaga residents for hosting them for the celebrations while also recognizing governor Anne Waiguru’s efforts to transform and develop the county.
The event was graced by various leaders including Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera who was the chief guest, President Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, Governors such as Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri) Anyang’ Nyong’ (Kisumu), James Ongwae (Kisii) among others.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka however did not attend the event since he is out of the country according to Mudavadi.
