A 60-year old man from South Carolina, United States dropped dead while attempting to bury a woman that he had murdered by strangling.
The man, identified as Joseph Anthony McKinnon, is said to have died after developing a cardiac arrest while burying the victim’s body at the backyard of their home. The victim was identified as 65-year-old Patricia Ruth Dent
Mckinon was discovered dead when Edgefield County police officers arrived at the scene after being notified of an unresponsive man in his yard.
Dent’s body was discovered in a freshly dug pit when the officers were in the process of investigating what might have led to Mckinnon’s death and notifying his kin about his death.
In a statement, the officers said that they believed Mckinnon’s death was natural, while that of Dent was due to foul play.
Autopsies conducted on the bodies of the deceased indicated that Mckinnon died of a cardiac arrest while Dent succumbed to strangulation.
“Evidence gathered at the scene, along with statements from witnesses aided investigators to build a timeline, leading us to believe that Mr. McKinnon attacked Ms. Dent while inside their home,” read the police statement.
In their conclusion, the police said that Mkcinnon stashed Dent’s body in a trash bag before dumping her in the pit when he developed the cardiac event.
“He bound and wrapped her in trash bags before putting her into a pit he had already dug. While McKinnon was filling the grave, he had a cardiac event, causing his death,” authorities said.
