Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Friday, September 22, banned Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza from hosting her outreach program known as Okolea.
Speaking at Igembe Central Constituency, the Interior CS termed the meetings inciteful.
CS Kindiki expressed concerns that Mwangaza’s supporters were attacking opponents leading to retaliation.
“Reports that have reached me is that the Governor’s (Mwangaza) allies were inciteful, disrupted peace and assaulted journalists….thinking they are defending Meru governor. The targeted people also broke the law,” Kindiki stated.
The CS vowed to clamp down on the organizers of the program in a similar fashion he dealt with anti-government protests called by Azimio.
“To have a disciplined nation that follows the law… you have seen how I have been strict on Azimio politicians aiding crime,” he insisted.
“We have banned meetings that incite people. This is final,” the CS affirmed.
Kindiki stated that he was aware that Mwangaza was planning to hold a similar meeting in Imenti Central Constituency this Sunday.
“We are not going to allow it. If you think it is a joke, try it. Don’t try me,” the agitated CS announced.
The order comes after chaos was witnessed last Sunday during Mwangaza’s ‘Okolea Program’ function at Makiri, Igembe South Constituency.
10 suspects linked to the chaos were arrested and Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma was grilled by DCI.
