Distressed headteacher hangs self in school staffroom

Date:

The school headteacher at Baraka Academy in Nyeri has committed suicide at the school’s staff-room.

According to sources, the teacher has been depressed for some time due to marital problems.

Citizen Digital reports that the matter was reported by the school owner Teresia Wanjugu who had been alerted by a neighbor that a foul smell was coming from the school.

She rushed to the school where she found the door to the staffroom ajar.

The body of the 53-year-old Joseph Mwangi was hanging from the roof on a sisal rope tied around his neck.

Police officers alerted to the matter visited the scene where they confirmed the incident, with preliminary investigations pointing at suicide.

The body had visible injuries on the neck and the left side of the face with police officers saying the injuries may have been caused by an animal, probably a rat.

The body was removed to the Karatina Sub-county Referral Hospital Mortuary pending an autopsy.

Detectives from Mathira East are currently conducting investigations into the matter.
