Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, in an interview last week, said that she enjoys a cordial and respectful relationship with the president.
Waiguru was speaking about how her move to ditch Jubilee for UDA had affected her relationship with the head of state, whereby she said that Kenyatta understands her reasons for quitting the ruling party.
“President Kenyatta is a mature politician. He has been in politics many years, he understands that people make political decisions based on their own lives, he doesn’t control anybody.
“He understands the reason as to why I moved to UDA. Political differences does not mean enmity, he respects the decision I made,” the governor said.
The relationship between President Kenyatta and Waiguru however seems to be the opposite of what she said, since it has emerged that Waiguru and other UDA leaders were denied a permit to host DP William Ruto on Saturday January 29 at Wang’uru stadium.
The stadium, which was constructed not long ago for the Mashujaa Day celebrations, is considered as president Kenyatta’s project in the county.
In a press briefing Waiguru said that they were denied a permit since the stadium is still under renovations.
“They claim the stadium is incomplete while all along it has been made available for use for some functions. It hosted Mashujaa and most recently one of the county woman representative’s functions in which PS Kibicho graced,” Waiguru said while in Sagana.
The first term governor who was accompanied by leaders from the county allied to DP Ruto further said that she does not understand why when it was their turn to host an event at the stadium they were denied access.
She however said that the rally will go on as planned but will be hosted in Mwea Thiba North Grounds.
“H.E. Deputy President William Ruto’s Saturday rally in Mwea will continue despite unwarranted refusal by known “system” operatives for the event to be held at Wang’uru stadium. We the people of Kirinyaga, will host HE DP William Ruto, Hon Musalia Mudavadi and Hon Moses Wetangula for another Earthquake rally, in Mwea Thiba North Grounds, on Saturday 29th January, 2022. Karibuni sana,” Waiguru affirmed.
