A private developer now risks eviction and demolition in Ngong, Kajiado County after the Ministry of Environment and Forestry initiated plans to lodge a legal suit.
According to the Ministry, the private developer alleged grabbed a forest land which is valued at Ksh100 million and was in the process of constructing structures.
The said piece of land is 3 acres.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry noted that it was moving to court to sue the private developer and all ministry employees who may have colluded with him to rob the public of the gazetted forest land.
Kenya Forest Service Chief Conservator Alex Lemarkoko said: “We’re going for those who grabbed forest land…anybody who is inside the forest…anybody who intends to go into the forest, who has a plan, you better just dismantle that plan.”
Numerous reports indicate that the developer insisted he was the rightful owner of the said land vowing to defend its acquisition.
Forestry Principal Secretary Gitonga Mugambi said; “For this to happen, it had to have collusion with some people within our department, especially in the survey unit…we will deal with them accordingly, and take them to court, we must send a clear message that forest land is for the public.”
Addressing the press, community members asked the government to expedite the process and revoke all title deeds issued to individuals grabbing forest land in Ngong.
