Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has held a meeting with a delegation from China.
According to the CS, China’s delegation was led by the National Railway Administrator Mr. Fei Dongbin.
The meeting centered around cooperation, especially in the railway sector.
” We discussed various areas of cooperation on railway development in the East Africa region and Africa at large,” Murkomen stated.
“The establishment of Kenya as a regional hub for railway transport by building rolling stocks maintenance centre and assembly plants, upgrading of training institutions and training of personnel was also discussed,” he added.
During the meeting, Murkomen also reiterated the need to extend the Standard Gauge Railway to Uganda.
“I reiterated Kenya’s commitment to the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Kampala and beyond, and called for support on this and commercial logistics hubs along the corridor to create more businesses and employment opportunities.”
