The tension between nominated member of parliament John Mbadi and Embakasi member of parliament Babu Owino has left Raila Odinga’s ODM party disunited.
According to babu Owino, he was not happy that the Orange Democratic Movement party wanted to shortchange him the chair of the powerful Public Accounts Committee and award the same to John Mbadi.
The Embakasi East legislator questioned why the former Suba east member of parliament was being considered for his post after failing to secure the majority leadership position from Ugunja MP Opiyo wandayi.
“@TheODMparty With Due respect why should Hon John Mbadi come down from the position of Majority leader to PAC chair which was reserved for me. This will not happen!!!Over my dead body…Young people must get their space.. it’s now or never . He has been rewarded through Nomination” Complained the vibrant MP.
Well, Sonkonews has learnt that Raila might actually give in to Babu Owino’s demands and award him the powerful parliamentary post. According to sources, Babu contributed more towards Raila’s campaigns not only in Nairobi but also in other parts of the country.
On many occasions, Babu appealed to all types of crowds in the country whether in Mt. Kenya, Riftvalley, Nairobi, Coastal region , North eastern and even Western region. On the other hand, Mbadi rarely featured in Raila’s campaigns apart from Luo Nyanza where he spent most of the time fighting ODM party’s governor candidate for Homabay Gladys Wanga.
The source also argued that Raila must give Babu the PAC post because he gave him more presidential votes in Embakasi constituency more than what Mbadi gave Raila in his constituency. Specifically, Raila got 54,000 votes in Embakasi east while he only got 40,098 where Mbadi comes from.
Most importantly, it has been argued that the ODM leader must award the post to Babu who represents the young faces as opposed to Mbadi who represents the oldguards in ODM that have made Raila fail the presidency each time he tries to contest.
