A DCI officer is in custody after he was found with items believed to have been stolen from a crime scene.
The officer’s name has been withheld but he is based at DCI Kitengela branch.
According to a police report, the officer in question was assigned to process a crime scene.
A Nigerian, identified as Lawrence Akinola had requested the police help, after a man he had hosted died in his house in Athi River, Machakos County.
The DCI officer, who came to process the crime scene reportedly stole a phone and a laptop from the Nigerian national during the procedure.
“Later, the complainant, Mr Lawrence Akinola, a Nigerian male adult, who had accommodated the deceased in his house namely Cheche Omung’ula, reported that his laptop and mobile phone all valued at Kshs70,000 were stolen during the processing of the crime scene by the said officer. This prompted the said investigating officer to make a follow-up,” the police report stated.
After being subjected, the DCI officer was found in possession of the laptop. He had however sold the phone cheaply in Kitengela town.
Both items have since been recovered and preserved as evidence after being identified positively by the complainant,
The officer is currently in custody after being arrested while drunk. He is said to be among the Crime Scene Investigators who were transferred in July.
