A senior DCI officer is facing rape charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a police cell in Mutunduri, Embu County.
Police boss, Jervasio Njeru is accused of raping a suspect who was being held at Manyatta Police Station over fraud allegations.
The Embu North Director of Criminal Investigations was arrested on Tuesday by his colleagues stationed at Kiambu Road-based DCI headquarters.
From the report seen by SonkoNews, the woman was taken into custody on May 30, just a few days after she was reported for obtaining money by false pretense.
The unidentified woman (because of privacy issues) was booked in a cell at Manyatta police station but was later set free on a free bond.
The woman appeared before the Embu DCI officer on Tuesday where she was allegedly sexually abused.
According to the police records, the woman managed to escape after the act and reported the case at Manyatta Police Station.
The assaulted lady was admitted at Embu Level 5 Hospital for treatment after the incident.
According to the area police officers, they had visited and documented the scene of the crime.

“We have already visited and documented the scene of the crime and done our investigations,” The police statement recorded.
This is no the first time a police officer has been accused of assaulting a woman at a police station. Last year, a police constable was charged for sexually harassing a minor who had been booked in one of the police cells.
According to reports we established, the Constable was reported to constantly visit the cell where the 15-year old form two student was being held despite her continuous denial of the act.
The schoolgirl went to the police station to seek refuge after having a fight with her mother who then chased her with a kitchen knife and was later booked in the police station as a child in need of care.
The DCI officer is expected to be arraigned in court today.
