DCI George Kinoti In Trouble As Businessman Wants Him Jailed For 6 Months

Date:

Director Of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti could have a taste of his own medicine if found guilty as Kirinyaga Court summons him.

Kerugoya High Court judge Janet Mulwa has ordered (DCI) George Kinoti to personally appear at the Kerugoya High Court on November 24, 2020 to explain why he should not be punished for disobeying a court order.

This follows an application filed by Kirinyaga businessman Patrick Njiru seeking to have Kinoti jailed for six months for contempt of court.

Mr. Kinoti had on May 2, 2020 been directed by Justice Lucy Gitari to release Njiru’s two lorries and sugar packing machines worth Ksh.46 million (two lorries worth Ksh.24 million and sugar packing machines worth Ksh.22 million) that are being held at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

READ MORE:

The businessman, through lawyer Brian Khaemba, said DCI Kinoti was ordered by the Kerugoya High Court to pay him Ksh.90,000 from May 2, 2020 if he fails to release the two lorries and the sugar packing machine.

Kinoti impounded 1,260 bags of suspected illegal sugar at Pareah stores along the Ruiru Bypass in Kiambu in June 2018 and requested the businessman to use his two vehicles to transport the sugar.

The DCI ‘s lawyer failed to convince the court after submitting that Kinoti was holding the vehicles as exhibit.

In June 2018 Njiru and his wife obtained court orders barring police from arresting him and his wife Leah Njiru where they were both issued with anticipatory bail of Ksh.200,000 on condition that they will appear in court after seven days.
