The main suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital Acting Finance Director Eric Maigo has been arrested.
Ann Adhiambo Akinyi, who has been on the run since last week Thursday, was arrested in Kibra in an intelligence-led operation by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.
The detectives raided Olympic Area after receiving intelligence reports from residents and apprehended the suspect who was then held at Muthaiga Police Station awaiting transfer to Kilimani Police Station which is handling the matter.
“Immediately after her arrest, the teenager was whisked to DCI headquarters for interrogation before she was booked at Muthaiga police station,” DCI’s statement read in part.
“She had been captured scaling perimeter walls in CCTV footage retrieved by crime scene detectives close to the scene of the murder, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt across the city,” it added.
Maigo’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood on September 15, bearing 25 stab wounds.
Later DCI contained CCTV footage that showed the suspect attempting to escape from the victim’s residence at Woodley Annex–Upper by scaling through the perimeter wall.
In a statement, DCI revealed that the images of the suspect shared across the internet on had led to the recovery of the clothes she wore at Bombolulu village in Kibra.
A further probe would later reveal that the suspect is aged between 15-17 years.
She is expected to be processed and present in court in connection with the murder of Maigo.
