DCI Arrest Watchman In Connection With Embakasi Explosion

Date:

DCI officers have arrested one person, in connection with the explosion that was witnessed in Embakasi on Thursday night.

The man apprehended is believed to be the security guard of  Dadols Gas Refill station, where the deadly explosion occurred.

His identity and charges that will be preferred on him are yet to be known.

Three people have been confirmed dead, and about three hundred others are hospitalized in different hospitals with injuries.

Embakasi residents however alleged that the explosion might have resulted after two mechanics jumpstarted a vehicle they were fixing, despite their warning about the  smell of gas.

In his statement, government spokes person Isaac Mwaura however detailed the cause of the explosion that resulted into a huge fire.

“One Lorry of an unknown registration number that was loaded with gas cylinders exploded, igniting a huge ball of fire that spread widely, with one of the cylinders hitting garment and textile Oriental Godown and burning down.

“Consequently, the inferno further damaged several vehicles and commercial properties, including many small and medium-sized businesses. Sadly, residential houses in the neighbourhood also caught fire, with a good number of residents still inside as it was late at night,” he said.
