President-elect William Ruto’s Chief of Staff Davis Chirchir has responded to claims that he was among the 10 people who supervised a team of 46 hackers, whose main responsibility was to deny Raila Odinga victory in the August 9Â elections by manipulating forms in IEBC systems.
Reports about the 56 hacker-team were made public following a petition that was filed by John Githongo, an anti-corruption activist, in support of Raila and Martha Karua’s petition.
Other people that Githongo claimed were in charge of those tasked with infiltrating IEBC systems are Dennis Itumbi, Kibyegon, Morris Mutegi, Baby Serge and Jackson Kandi.
In a response to Githongo’s petition filed at the Supreme Court, Chirchir denied knowing the other individuals who were mentioned except Itumbi, noting that despite interacting with him, they did not work ogether on matters relating to Ruto’s campaign.
“I do not know any of these listed individuals other than Dennis Itumbi, who I have had interactions with over the years. He and I did not work together in any capacity in relation to the Presidential Campaign either pre-election, on election date and/or during the tallying process,” part of his affidavit read.
“It is within my knowledge that Ruto had set up the WSR Presidential Campaign Secretariat which was based at an office located on the 2nd floor of Soin Arcade in Westlands. Ruto had engaged personnel to assist him with his campaign,” he added.
He further said that he was not involved with Ruto’s campaigns in any manner.
“That while I was not involved in Ruto’s presidential campaigns, I am aware that this Campaign Secretariat was used for political, technical, communications and strategy meetings during the course of the campaign. I was not involved in the 9th Respondent’s campaigns,” Chirchir said.
