ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has rubbished claims that he interested in the Nyeri gubernatorial seat in the coming general elections.
According to reports, Mucheru and his health counterpart Mutahi Kagwe have been rumored to be eyeing the seat.
“I think before I proceed, let me, first of all, clarify the issue of interest. You know maybe you are referring to what the media has been saying about myself and your namesake Mutahi Kagwe and the issue that we are interested in the governorship of this great county of Nyeri,” he said.
“Let me assure you that we shall continue to work together and those interests are not there,” Mucheru added.
The CS said that he is only interested in bringing development in the county.
He further stated that a meeting that they held with governor Mutahi Kahiga was to discuss about the challenges that the telecommunication companies had encountered in establishing fibre in the county which was attributed to lack of goodwill by the previous county administration.
“And so be rest assured that our interests are very aligned and we will continue to work together in that way because that is what we want,” he said.
“There are many questions being asked about our views but for things that are above our pay grade, we don’t necessarily comment. We only comment on those that are directly related to us,” Mucheru went on.
This comes after governor Kahiga said that Mucheru had some interests beyond being a cabinet secretary on Friday.
“It also reminds us that CS Mucheru has interests in Nyeri beyond being CS,” Kahiga said.
Mucheru officiated the launch of Communication Authority of Kenya’s Radio Spectrum Monitoring Station t Wambugu ATC in Nyeri town.
He has recently been attacking DP William Ruto and his hustler nation narrative.
