A suspect was, on Wednesday, was arraigned in court for impersonating a police officer and assaulting “the real” police officer.
The suspect, Evans Matundura, was arraigned before Kibera Law Courts’ Senior Principal Magistrate Philip where he was charged for assaulting Police Constable John Anyosa Ogweno.
Matundura is said to have assaulted the police officer who went to bring peace between and a petrol station attendant with whom he was involved in an altercation.
The altercation between him and the petrol attendant begun after he was asked to park his vehicle aside to minimize the traffic jam at the entrance of the petrol station.
Matundura is said to have driven in at Ola Petrol Statio along Limuru Road Parkland within Nairobi Westlands when he suddenly caused a traffic jam. One of the security guards at the station then approached him requesting him to park his vehicle aside to allow other motorists to get serviced.
After parking his vehicle aside as requested, the suspect is said to have come out of the vehicle and started confronting the security guard asking if she knew he was a police officer. It is from here that he started an argument that attracted the attention of the public including three police officers who were in civilian clothes.
Ogweno was among the cops in the civilians who opted to interrogate Matundura following his claims that he was a police officer. When asked to reveal his workstation and number, he gave out a four-digit number as opposed to the six-digit police serial number. He also lied to the police about his name saying that he was called officer Rono and was attached to Rongai police station.
When asked to produce his certificate of appointment, he also failed to do so prompting the three officers to initiate an arrest. He, however, resisted an arrest and in the process, he ended up biting Ogweno whom he accused of causing him injuries.
Ogweno and his colleagues, however, managed to arrest him and escort him to the Parklands Police Station.
The incident happened on September 23 and it will be mentioned on October 12 for further directions.
