Former Gichugu member of parliament Martha Karua on Wednesday threw her weight behind the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
According to Martha Karua, her party the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) decided not to fill the presidential candidate to back the opposition leader.
However, what stood out is the extent Martha Karua went not only to tear into some allies of Raila Odinga in Azimio but also comparing them to the corrupt faces at the Kenya Kwanza camp.
According to Martha Karua, Azimio coalition was surrounded by bad and evil people who have subjected this country to more sufferings.
However, the former justice minister in the Mwai Kibaki government noted that in as much as Azimio had bad people, it was the better side compared to Kenya Kwanza since many evil people have surrounded the deputy president.
As a result, she stated that her decision to support Azimio and not Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza was after she weighed which side was full of oppressors.
Martha Karua was supposed to announce on Wednesday whether she would back the ODM Party leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid or join DP William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza team after several speculations.
Azimio la Umoja communication Director Dennis Onsarigo had hinted to the Star that the meeting would take place on Wednesday at 11:30 am but did not disclose the agenda.
“Yes, they will be holding a joint press conference at 11:30am,” Onsarigo affirmed.
Asked whether Karua would officially declare joining the Raila Odinga-led coalition, Onsarigo said, “I don’t know. I’m also going to find out at that meeting,” he said on the phone.
A tweet by the Narc Kenya party, however, revealed that the event could culminate into the party joining forces with Azimio ahead of the August 9 elections.
“A time to finally steer the nation is finally here and change is at sight,” read the tweet.
And true to her words, Martha Karua is now fully in Azimio coalition not only by body but also by mind, heart and soul.
