Co-operative Bank accused of illegally transferring 1.5 Million from a deceased’s savings account

Date:

What was the hurry to “transfer” the funds 4 months after the death? Kinuthia asks The Co-operative Bank.

Co-operative Bank has been accused of allegedly transferring 1.5 Million from Diana’s late dad account without proper authorization.

Twitter star Belive Kinuthia has tasked the bank to explain why the money was moved only four months instead of the seven years wait.

“Dear Cooperative Bank of Kenya, Illegally, you allegedly transferred 1.5M from Diana’s late dad savings account 4 months after his death. No one authorised you to do so. No one reported to you about his death. Legally, you were supposed to wait for 7 months,” he claims.

He further reveals that the bank claimed the money was transferred to the Public Trustee which Kinuthia says is not true.

“You allegedly said you transferred the money to the Public Trustee. Public Trustee denied having received any money from you. According to law, transferring more than 500k from a deceased bank account, you requested a letter of administration. In this case, there was none.”

Diana’s efforts to get an explanation from The Co-operative Bank have not been fruitful. Kinuthia has three questions which the bank should answer in regards to the lady’s late dad savings, which went missing after four months only

“You have frustrated Diana. You have not been able to answer these questions.” he says.

1. Who notified you of his death?

2. What was the hurry to “transfer” the funds 4 months after the death?

3. Why couldn’t you follow the law and wait for 7 years to elapse?

After following up with the Public Trustee, they also found out that the 1.5 Million wasn’t transferred as claimed by Co-op Bank.

“Coop Bank. Where is the 1.5M? Public Trustee said they received nothing from you. No record of such a transaction. So pesa ilienda wapi?” Kinuthia asks.
