‘Chama’ Members Cry Foul As Their Christmas Cow Is Stolen And Slaughtered

Date:

A self-help group in Kirinyaga county is crying foul after their Christmas and holiday plans were thwarted by cattle thieves.

The group had save money all year so as to end the year in style by slaughtering a cow and feasting.

Their Kshs200 monthly contributions earned them a cow but little did they know that thieves were also eyeing the animal and they struck at night, stealing it and slaughtered at a different location

“We have been saving money every person Kshs200, every month. Our group has a total of 43 people. The money we were saving was meant for celebrating the holidays on December 31. Every year we buy a cow and celebrate. Now we won’t be able to celebrate because our cow was stolen,” one of the members said.

Another member said that they spend all night looking for their cow and only found its remains in the morning.

“The cow was stolen at night we have looked for it. In the morning we were told that there is a cow that had been slaughtered someone,” he explained.

“Sasa hakuna nyama tena tutakaa hivyo siku kuu wale wengine wakikula,” a female member added.

The incident has attracted mixed reactions among Kenyans with some wondering if they should feel sorry for the chama members.

“Should we say sorry or should we be Kenyans,” one said on social media.

Another wrote, “Hapo kwa kikundi kuna Judas Iscariot.”

“This is most unfortunate. There are proper salt of the earth, honest people in this world. Whoever stole that cow has no idea the laana he or she has brought upon themselves,” another netizen said.
