The case against a 35-year old man from Kathata village, Gichugu in Kirinyaga county who is accused of killing his whole family failed to kick off.
This is after Paul Murage Njuki complained of a headache while in court.
The suspect was arraigned before Gichugu Principal magistrate Leah Kaberia whereby he requested the court to direct the state to attend to his ailment before any further proceedings with the case against him.
The magistrate allowed detectives to rush the suspect to a nearby health facility before returning him to court.
The office of the DCI also intends to file an application requesting the court to grant detectives 14 days to conclude investigations.
Njuki is said to have murdered his 38-year old wife and their four children, two boys and two girls, aged between 1 and 13 on Monday night.
He allegedly used an axe, panga and slasher to commit the heinous crime before surrendering himself to the Kianyaga police station.
He asked the police to lock him up in the cell for 6 months for the murder of his family.
According to reports, the suspect confessed to have also defiled his eldest daughter before killing her and confessed to peddling bhang.
The suspect’s relatives who spoke to the media said that Njuki had attempted to defile his daughter on several occasions and his wife had complained about his behaviour to the relatives.
He is believed to have first descended on his wife before attacking his children who were asleep.
Locals claimed that his children pleaded with their father not to finish them off but he paid no attention to their pleas.
Neighbors who responded to the distress call found the victims lying in a pool of blood while describing the scene as horrific.
Angry residents wanted to lynch the suspect when he rushed to the police station.
