While candidates sat the Mathematics Paper law enforcement officers stated that an unidentified man was spotted by a KNEC examination official placing a password-protected mobile phone by a classroom window adjacent to the examination centre.

After the candidates finished sitting the maths paper, the KNEC official interrogated the students to determine the owner of the said phone.

The private candidate reportedly ceded that the phone was hers.

After sharing the device’s password, KNEC officials discovered that the maths test the students had just sat had been shared on four different WhatsApp groups on the said phone prior to the examination.

The mobile phone has since been confiscated by police who are also probing the private student.

KNEC had earlier warned parents and candidates against falling victim to fake papers online.

The examination body indicated that many social media platforms were sharing the papers to hoodwink candidates and parents.

KNEC thus to clampdown on people encouraging exams malpractice.

So far, over 30 teachers have been questioned in relation to exam malpractice.

9 principals have also been suspended as exam managers over suspected cases of perpetuating irregularities in the national exams.

Candidates however expect to receive their results before December 25, 2023.
