Businessman David Njuguna Buys 3 Planes, Donates One To Raila Odinga For Campaign

Date:

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) auctioned planes on Wednesday November 17th and businessman David Njuguna bought three, one of which he donated to Raila Odinga.

Early this month, KAA invited interested bidders for planes that have overstayed at their yards at the Jomo Kenyatta, Moi, Wilson and Lokichoggio airports.

In an advert, KAA announced it will auction 73 uncollected aircrafts at the four mentioned airports across the country.

Some of the entities whose aircraft are lying uncollected at the airports are Somali Air Force, Jetlink, Skyward, Eagle Aviation, Prestige Aviation, Fly540, Pan Africa Airways, and Planes for Africa.

KAA said parking fees were accumulating and the companies were not paying up. The abandoned planes had also congested the airports, disrupting other activities and posing a security threat.

KAA said bidders would have to pay a deposit of Ksh100,000 per item on auction. Where the bid price is lower than the deposit price, the bidder will be refunded the difference after presenting a receipt.

The auction at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson airport in Nairobi took place on Wednesday November 17th.

At Moi International Airport in Mombasa, planes are being sold today November 19th, and at Lokichoggio the auction will happen on November 22nd.

During the auction in Nairobi, businessman David Njuguna acquired three planes. He said one will be for his own personal use, the other for business and the third one he donated it to ODM leader Raila Odinga for his campaigns.

“One is for business, the jet one is going to be for personal use and the other one we are going to support Baba for the campaigns. We are going to donate one to ODM,” Njuguna told Reuters.

In October, Raila received a number of state of the art campaign Land Cruisers that he now uses in his 2022 campaign.

The vehicles were donated by tycoon Mike Rabar who said that the gifts were just a token of appreciation to Raila because of what he has done in the past for the Republic of Kenya.
