Several ODM delegates in Siaya who attended Jimi Wanjigi function were left stranded in the cold streets after the billionaire failed to cater for their transport back home.
According to People Daily, the delegates who came from various sub-counties of Siaya were forced to look for alternative shelter with some of them having to spend the night outside buildings.
“I don’t know how I will go back home because I don’t have adequate transport,” Said one ODM delegate from Rarieda sub-county.
Attempts by Sonko News to reach Wanjigi’s organizers on the ground to come clean on the issue were futile as our text messages and phone calls went unanswered.
At the same time, Jimi Wanjigi received a heroic welcome from the residents of Bondo town in Siaya county just a day after he was pelted with stones in the county of Migori.
From the pictures and videos in possession of Sonko News, Jimi Wanjigi had a humble time in Siaya county to interact with the locals.
This heroic welcome made many people question the Migori events with some blaming the area leadership for organizing violence to paint the Luo community and the ODM party in bad light.
“Wanjigi just received a heroic welcome in Siaya, the backyard of Raila Odinga without much drama as witnessed in the county of Migori. This is the reason why most of us feel that the Migori event violence was organized by few paid goons allied to the ant- ODM proponents within the region.” Said a concerned Kenyan.
Wanjigi had gone to Migori on Friday as part of his popularization campaign ahead of his 2022 presidential ambition in an ODM ticket.
According to the video clip recorded in Migori town, things were fine for Jimi Wanjigi who was chanting ODM Fagia Wote, until unknown goons started pelting stones at him.
However, it is not clear whether the philanthropic billionaire was injured in the process because he entered his car amidst the many stones that were directed at him.
However, Wanjigi later described the disruption of his Migori meeting as an affront to democracy and that it should be condemned by the party leader Raila Odinga.
Wanjigi also vowed to continue with his tour of Nyanza, maintaining that he will still have to go back to Migori to deliver his message to the people.
“I would not be cowed. We will be in Siaya county tomorrow (Saturday) and Kisumu on Sunday and later return to Migori. We will keep moving on. Democracy is for all of us and not for some of us,” said Wanjigi.
In the meantime, ODM leadership has condemned the violence with the likes of Suna East MP Junet Mohamed calling for investigation and arrest to the goons who disrupted Wanjigi’s tour.
