Kithure Kindiki, the Tharaka Nithi Senator has been impeached after 54 senators voted to support his removal as the Senate Deputy Speaker. Seven other senators disagreed with the motion that was moved by Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kangata on Tuesday, May 22, 2020.
Ousted Senate Deputy Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki has given his last address to the Senate before being ejected.
Addressing his colleagues in the house before Speaker Ken Lusaka called for a vote to determine his fate, he termed the accusations raised against him as baseless.
He stated that it was unfortunate that the Senate was handling his ouster in a time when the country faced the danger of covid-19, locust menace and a struggling economy.
He absolved President Uhuru Kenyatta of blame and instead pointed fingers saying “I have travelled with powers of darkness in the past one week.”
“In my struggle with the powers of darkness in the past one week, I rejoice in my tribulations. Harbouring hate against them would work in their favour.
“If I don’t forgive them they will have succeeded in pulling me down into their dirty underground dungeons where they cook their hopeless scheme,” he declared.
He apologised for any errors he may have made that led to his ouster, arguing that trying him envisaged the freedom to make mistakes.
“I respect their choice to be petty but they should know that humility is not cowardice and neither is silence a sign of ignorance,” he aimed a jab at his rivals.
He remained optimistic that better days ahead.
During the voting session, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen disrupted proceeding after Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio voted on behalf of Nominated Senator Beth Mugo who was absent on health grounds.
