Activist Boniface Mwangi has revealed that Azimio has taken action against him after he shared details of how they lost in the general election.
In a statement he shared on Tuesday morning, Mwangi claimed that he had been removed from all the campaign groups. He however admitted that his tenure in the coalition had come to an end.
“I have been removed from all the campaign WhatsApp groups which is a silly and petty move. If l wanted to drag and name the specific people who caused us the defeat, I would have done so but l didn’t. It seems my shift at the team has come to an end. I wish them well,” he said.
In his earlier statement, Mwangi said that Raila Odinga and Martha Karua failed to clinch the presidency because of Azimio’s overconfidence and grossly underestimating their opponent.
He also blames president Kenyatta for their poor performance as well as the Azimio secretariat.
“The secretariat ignored feedback on how to make the campaign resonate with Kenyans including: withdrawing old men, and people facing criminal charges from our rallies and getting more youthful voices on the campaign stage, and having local leadership at the center stage instead of having one man run the show at all rallies. Politics is local,” Mwangi said, adding that they failed because people were appointed because of loyalty instead of their professional skills.
“We trusted incompetent and dishonest people with huge and sensitive responsibilities. We failed to appreciate the goodwill that was offered by many people and failed to bring in expert volunteers. Many of those tasked with huge responsibilities were criminally lazy and failed to match the expectations that we had of them,” he further said.
Mwangi accused the secretariat of fear to speak the truth, ” lest they fall out of favor with the powers that be.”
“We gave Bomas access badges to incompetent sycophants, politicians, and cronies who were there not to guard the vote but to heckle, disrupt, and take selfies to show that they were at the tallying centre. The events that took place at Bomas were nothing short of a tragic comedy of Azimio’s own making,” the activist said.
