Taxi hailing company Bolt has offered to secretly compensate Nairobi woman who was hacked by the company’s driver after a disagreement over fare.
The lady identified as Suzzy Cerra was embroiled in an verbal altercation with Bolt driver on Sunday, August 29th at around 8:40pm near Diamond Plaza in Nairobi.
The woman hailed the cab while in company of her brother and they got into an argument with the driver because he charged them Ksh780 while the app said they only needed to pay Ksh270.
The argument turned chaotic as the driver became bitter and assaulted Suzzy’s brother with a wooden club.
Suzzy said the driver further brandished a knife and aimed it at cutting her brother’s head forcing her to come to his aid by blocking the knife with her hand.
“I refused to pay the extra fare and opted for cancelling the trip so that I can request another ride. That is when he became furious and assaulted by brother with a baton. He then brandished a knife and wanted to cut my brother’s head but I blocked it with my hand and we all fell to the ground. It is there that he hacked my hand and drove off,” Suzzy narrated her ordeal on her Instagram account.
Suzzy’s wrist and fingers are visibly swollen with a white bandage covering her knuckle and palm in the photo she posted on IG.
Bolt Kenya issued a statement in regard to Suzzy’s ordeal. They urged her to matter the to Parklands Police Station so that justice can be pursued.
Bolt explained that Suzzy requested a trip, and the driver accepted and confirmed at 8:41 pm on August 28th.
However, the taxi hailing company stated that Suzzy showed up with eight people against the required four passengers, and that she was first to attack the driver after a disagreement.
“The driver alleges that upon arrival, the rider was in the company of 8 people who also wanted to bard the car. The driver explained to the rider that he cannot carry beyond the licensed capacity of four passengers. The rider didn’t want to listen and her friends proceeded to physically attack the driver. The driver defended himself from the attack of the rider and her friends (all 8 of them). The driver proceeded to report the incident and opened a case with the police at Parklands Police Station,” Bolt said in part.
Suzzy has now revealed that Bolt reached out to her with a promise of giving her free rides to settle a case if she pulls down a social media post where she highlighted the ordeal.
“They asked me to pull down my post so that they can give me a promo code,” Suzzy said.
