Body Of Missing School Boy Retrieved From Crocodiles’ Stomach

Date:

The body of missing school boy from Ndhiwa in Homa bay was finally retrieved from a crocodiles stomach on Friday 2.

Kenya Wildlife Services tracked the crocodile for over 24 hours, shot it and dissected it along River Kuja to get the remains of 11-year old who was a student at Omboo Nazarene Academy.

The minor was attacked by the reptile on February 1, when he had gone to fetch water in the company of his peers.

Following the incident, his friends raised alarm, and the deceased’s mother Janet Auma rushed to the scene.

“I reached the place and saw my son held between the jaws of the crocodile. The reptile quickly dashed towards the deep side of the river before it dove into the water with the boy,” she told the media.

She added that she begged a man who was on the opposite side of the river to help rescue her son but he declined in fear of being attacked by the crocodile in the process.

The family was able to positively identify their kin, whose body was transported to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary, where postmortem would be conducted.

Local administrator Ann Onyango also expressed gratitude to KWS official who responded quickly and helped in retrieving the body.

According to Discover world life, at least 1000 people are killed by crocodiles every year.

Crocodiles however generally don’t hunt human beings, but the human kills are opportunitsic. Only the salt water crocodile as prey.
