Bajuun Tower, a residential building under construction in the Pangani estate became a topic of discussion after Scaffolds collapsed killing four workers.
According to the State Department of Public Works, the incident occurred when workers were plastering the external walls of the 15th, 16th, and 17th floors.
However the collapse occurred due to poor maintenance of scaffolds which were made using old wood. The scaffold was further weakened by the heavy rainfall.
“The workers were operating from a timber platform supported by a scaffold made of old wooden planks,” the statement reads in part.
“Due to weather elements, the structure had become weak and unsound, and could no longer support the weight of the workers, equipment and materials.”
According to preliminary reports, the scaffolding collapsed from the 10th floor and onto an adjacent property, taking the workers with it.
According to PS Arumonyang, some workers lacked safety gear when the tragic incident occurred.
He however deployed a multi agency team on the site to inspect and assess Bajuun Tower.
