Orange Democratic Movement has revealed that Jimmi Wanjigi may not be their flag bearer in the next general elections elections slated for August 2022.
According to the party’s secretary general Edwin Sifuna, Wanjigi has not submitted his request to be considered for the position yet the party closed the application process for the presidential ticket.
“First of all, he has not presented himself for the presidential ticket. Jimi Wanjigi is not a candidate for the party’s presidential ticket,” Sifuna stated.
Speaking in an interview at Spice FM, Sifuna insisted that only two members applied for the presidential ticket while saying that Wanjigi has only been an ODM member since 2018.
“When we opened the process, there were only two applicants, and they are known,” he said.
Wanjigi however requested for the party to reopen the application process according to Sifuna.
“He has made a request that I will submit to the National Executive Committee (NEC) in the next two weeks to have the process reopened so that he can apply,” Sifuna stated.
He also claimed that Wanjigi had some hidden intention towards the party which will be known in due course.
“His intention is not to support the party. He has ulterior intentions that he will tell us about when the time is right,” Sifuna remarks.
He revealed that Wanjigi was demanding that the party only uses one of the four methods to settle on the 2022 presidential candidate.
“An individual comes and says that I ascribe to these rules but I will only insist on a direct ticket,” Sifuna claimed.
Wanjigi has been moving around the country to popularize his candidature while meeting ODM delegates.
His recent tour in Migori did not end well after a group of youth hurled stones at him.
