It seems the Azimio one Kenya Alliance and Kenya Kwanza Alliance may not access the Jacaranda ground today on Sunday as earlier planned.
From viral photos shared online, anti riot police officers had been deployed at jacaranda grounds to block any attempts by the Kenya Kwanza and the Azimio factions to hold rallies there.
This comes in the wake of Azimio’s Embakasi east member of parliament Babu Owino claiming that he had equally booked the venue today on Sunday, the same day the Kenya Kwanza fraternity equally claimed that they booked it.
On his side, Babu’s rival Mr. Mureithi claimed that the authorities were keen on locking them out without any proper reason.
“Some administrators are trying to say that the venue has already been booked. I urge them to stop playing politics. We have seen Azimio go across the country and hold rallies peacefully. The youth should come and listen to the message by DP Ruto,” he said.
According to Muriethi who is the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MP candidate in Embakasi East, he booked Jacaranda himself sometimes back as he dismissed similar claims by Babu Owino.
“I booked the venue myself and got the clearance to host the rally from the authorities. Babu Owino wrote the letter to book the event after learning we had booked it to seek unnecessary attention. We have already set up the tent and everything for the venue,” he said.
Nominated senator Millicent Omanga also alleged that it was Kenya Kwanza that first booked the venue and that they were not aware of any from the Azimio side.
“We are the only ones who have booked the venue and we even have the proof. I urge our supporters to show up in large numbers because Nairobi is a hustler city,” she said
In the meantime, it is not clear who first booked the venue since both factions (Babu Owino) and Mureithi shared evidence claiming jacaranda.
This explains why the police have cordoned off the venue to prevent possible chaos from the two political factions.
