Cabinet Nominee for the ministry of National Treasury John Mbadi has assured Kenyans that politicians are also professional.
Appearing before the National Assembly’s Appointments Committee on Saturday August 3, 2024, Mbadi noted that serving in political capacities doesn’t take away their professional back grounds.
“I know Kenyans haven’t had kind words for political appointees but I also want to tell Kenyans out there that being in a political office is just a calling. Actually it is them who want elect us to those offices,” Mbadi said.
“It doesn’t take away our training, background and professional experiences. I have said I have worked for 28 years. I am a professional just like any other, whether in politics or private practice or otherwise. I want just to give confidence to the public that even when you are a politician you can be a professional.”
At the same time, he explained why he was fit for the job, noting that he has extensive experience on financial matters.
He added that he has been a member of the budget and appropriations committee for the 15 years that he has been in parliament.
“I was an assistant minister in the office of the Prime minister and my responsibility was to supervise and coordinate government functions in all ministries which is very much in line with treasury,” he said.
“During this time, I interacted a lot with the Kenyan budget and the macro-economic policies, I can attest that I have interacted with the budget review outlook paper which is prepared every year. I am comfortable with how to generate budget policy statements,” he went on.
