President William Ruto hosted hundreds of Kenyans from Nandi, Uasin Gishu and even Kakamega county at his Sugoi home on Friday.
The Kenyans thronged the head of state’s residence as early as 4.00am so as not miss on the early Christmas gifts that he had for them.
Accompanied by first lady Rachel Ruto, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja, his Uasin Gishu counterpart Jonathan Bii among other leaders, they distributed foodstuffs to the locals which included wheat flour, cooking oil and rice.
In as much as the president’s move was a nice gesture, critics had other thoughts.
“Watu wa Sugoi wako na njaa! Hawa wote wamekujia FREE FOOD!!” an X user said, accompanied by photos of the crowd that had turned up at Ruto’s home.
“Dear Rais: Men always dominate political rallies. But today, 90% were poor, tired, hungry, caring women walking dawn to your Sugoi homestead for goodies to feed their needy suffering families. Handouts won’t last, but bags printed ‘RUTO’ reminds ’em of an infertile, starving era,” Kabando wa Kabando said on the other hand.

Statehouse spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has however come out to address those criticizing the president.
Taking to X, the former Citizen TV news anchor told off the haters for criticizing sharing
“President @WilliamsRutotoday sharing with his neighbors in Sugoi during this festive season. Unbelievable how some (whose sport is to find fault at everything as the President said) would criticize sharing with the people. If you’re against sharing with your neighbors and humanity, you might want to check if your heart’s still beating. Being mean is a bad thing, but it’s even worse to campaign against sharing with humanity,” he said.
