Bars, Hotels and Liquor Traders Association has proposed that their establishments also be used as covid vaccination centers.
According to the association, the move will help in ensuring that more people get the covid vaccines.
Bhalita secretary Boniface Gachoka said that just like churches and hospitals, many people frequent their establishments.
“Bars are gathering points for people and like churches, can become one of the places where people can be sure to access vaccines regularly,” Gachoka said.
He urged the ministry of health to make use of the opportunity.
“We extend an invitation to the Ministry of Health to collaborate with our members, especially the large establishments to provide vaccines to more Kenyans,” he stated.
As a way of attracting more people to get vaccinated, the association said it will be offering free beers to those who get vaccinated in their premises in a proposal to the ministry of health.
The chair of the association, Frank Mbogo, also said that they would ensure the covid protocols are followed to the latter.
The association is also seeking to re-employ 90,000 workers who lost their jobs when 15,000 bars were closed down due to the pandemic.
“Our wish, which we can all help fulfil, is to have operations going back to normal and to never have to shut down again. We thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for vacating the curfew” Mbogo said.
