Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot is another politician who has prophesied that Raila will not clinch the African Union Commission Chairmanship.
Just like others, Aukot believes that Djibouti’s candidate Mahmoud Youssouf will beat Raila to the seat.
“Raila will not get the AUC position but William Ruto will say ‘si mliona mimi nilijaribu, si mnajua tulipanga kupeleka mzee ama namna gani my friend. Tulipanga lakini si mimi nilikataa,” Aukot said in an interview on Thursday morning.
Asked on why he thinks Raila will not win the position, Aukot said, “He is not even qualified.”
“Look at the qualifications for you to be a chair of AUC. I know it is a designated for the Eastern Africa Region but in terms of qualifications he doesn’t. The Djibouti guy will beat Raila. I am making a political prophecy and I hope you can invite me when the election is done. It wouldn’t happen. Baba ataoshwa. In fact as they say in Dholuo, they will nang’o baba,” he added.
On the other hand, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, who was also among the panelists in the daybreak show at Citizen TV noted that President William Ruto will have to carry the blame if Raila fails to win the seat.
“President Ruto has quickly rushed to Nyanza but will be in a lot of trouble if Raila doesn’t get the bid,” Maanzo said.
He further argued that instead o the president visiting Nyanza, he should head to West Africa and source votes for Raila.
“While we wish Raila well as Kenyans, we must be realistic on diplomacy and what sort of elections he is going through. This election is by presidents and the main leader of the diplomatic mission in that particular campaign is the president himself. If Kenya wants Raila to go, President Ruto should be in West Africa and not Nyanza,” he added.
Other candidates in the AUC chairmanship race are Anil Gayan of Mauritius and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar.
