Young, Famous and African has been the talk of town since it premiered on Netflix on Friday, March 18, 2022.
The reality show features celebrities from East Africa, West Africa and South Africa with Zari Hassan and Diamond Platnumz being part of the main cast.
Young Famous and African is a series that follows a group of young, affluent, and famous media personalities who converge in Johannesburg, South Africa with the aim of making new connections, finding love and possibly rekindling old flames, according to Netflix.
The show’s co-creator and Executive producer is Peace Hyde.
“Young, Famous & African presents an Africa that is vibrant, beautiful, glossy, and sexy to the world,” Hyde told African News while shedding more light on the project.
“I am truly proud to utilize the genre of Unscripted Reality TV to not only bring entertainment to global audiences but also change the perspective of Africa being a land of struggle and hustle that has been portrayed for years in the media. Proud of the entire incredible village that helped to bring this labor of love to the world,” Hyde further explained about Young famous and African on her Instagram account.
Comedian Eric Omondi is however claiming that the format used in the show is similar one to his Wife material show.
Omondi made the allegations through his Insta stories saying that probably the creators of the show copied wife material’s format or maybe it was just a coincidence.
“The format used in Young famous and African is the same format for Wife Material. It is either someone has been watching and stole the format or it is a really good coincidence, ” Omondi said.
Eric Omondi started the Wife Material show back in March 2021 so that Kenyans would not get bored with the normal stand up comedy.
“I have done standup comedy for more than 20years, and I will always be a standup comedian, but so that I don’t bore Kenyans, I tried something new. Imagine eating the Sukumawiki and Ugali every day; it becomes boring. Sometimes you need to try beef or Chapati here and there,” Eric said in a previous interview.
