Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru says that she is in good terms with president Uhuru Kenyatta even after ditching jubilee a few months ago.
In an interview with a local TV channel, Waiguru said that the relationship between her and the president has not changed and is the same as before.
“President Uhuru is a mature politician, he has been in politics for many years, He understands that people do make decisions based on their own lives. He doesn’t control anybody.
“He expects people to make rational decisions which they consider best for their political careers. He understands the reason as to why I moved to UDA. Political differences does not mean enmity, he respects the decision I made” the incumbent said.
According to the governor, she had a frank conversation with the head of state before where she stated her reasons for leaving.
“I did, I mentioned the situation as it was and how I understand the ground and that I would be making a political decision. The explanation was basically out of respect,” Waiguru said.
She added that together with some other members, they ditched jubilee because they were not pleased with how the party was being run.
“We had been raising the issue of revamping the party and rebranding it as well as changing the management style and a lot of it was not being addressed at the time,” she said.
Waiguru ditched jubilee on October 26, 2021 citing pressure from her supporters and the popularity of the bottom-up economic model.
“It is only a fool who can continue being in the same political path with the kind of pressure that I have been facing. You cannot dictate to them. I have shifted to support the Bottom-Up Economic Development Model,” Waiguru said then.
