Samburu woman representative Naisula Lesuuda openly showed her anger following sentiments by Hezena Lemaletian during the Azimio rally in Maralal.
Hezena Lemaletian who is eyeing the Samburu woman rep position took to the podium where she not only took a swipe at Naisula Lesuuda but also described her as a gatekeeper.
Hezena Lemaletian added that the Samburu women need opportunity but the same cannot be realized by the current woman rep.
In politics, a gatekeeper is someone who controls access to something/someone or rather someone that controls who gets an appointment with a political leader.
“The Samburu women are empowered, the Samburu women are educated, the Samburu women need opportunity, the Samburu women need more seats in government but there is one problem, we have gatekeepers. Baba please remember that one line we have gatekeepers.” Said LemaletianÂ
However, these sentiments did not go well with Naisula Lesuuda who was forced to cut short Hezena Lemaletian before she could finish her speech.
In a rejoinder, the woman rep denied the allegations that she was a gatekeeper in Samburu county.
“Wacha niwaulize swali, ngoja niwaulize swali, samburu county mna gatekeepers? Mna gatekeepers kweli? Hapa hatuna gatekeepers, tuko na mama gangari mama Naisula amekalia kiti (Let me ask you a question, do you have gatekeepers here in Samburu county? We have no gatekeepers here but we have Naisula Lesuuda who is your woman rep.”) Responded the angry Lesuuda as Hezena went back to her seat.Â
The difference between the two women almost reduced the Azimio rally in Samburu to a contest of who was popular in the local politics.
In the meantime, Raila Odinga took a swipe at the deputy president and baptized him bwana Ahadi (a man who makes false promises). He also castigated his wheelbarrow ideology, questioning why he suddenly changed from his 2013 promises of giving pupils laptops to distributing wheelbarrows.
