The directive from the Education CS George Magoha barring homosexual students from boarding schools has received a backlash in social media.
According to a report by the Nation, Magoha asked school heads not to allow gay and lesbian students in boarding schools.
The CS directed that such students should be enrolled in day schools that are closer to their homes and said that the move will protect the majority of learners.
“Right now, there are contemporary cases of children who are homosexual and lesbians, they must go to day schools close to their homes. Your responsibility should be for the greater majority and not a few individuals. Do not allow yourself to be intimidated by children,” Prof Magoha said.
A section of Kenyans in social media have however disagreed with Magoha, some accusing him of discrimination.
“CS Magoha is a bigot and a Neanderthal. To bar gay children from boarding schools is unconstitutional, discriminatory, and inhuman. Being gay is as natural and African as being asexual, heterosexual, pan sexual, and bisexual. We must love ALL our kids no matter their sexualities,” Professor Makau Mutua said through a tweet.
“On a serious note Magoha and Matiangi have proven themselves abusers of children with their violent directives. And its time everyone fought that shit,” Dolt Betty wrote.
Amour Placid said, “Magoha, you are a doctor and you have PhD in medicine and surgery. By now you ought to reason like a normal human being. This just indicates that you are indeed stupid. There are no gay learners, just learners. Are you discriminating someone because of their sexual orientation?”
“Magoha can make his own misleading judgement but he is not a gay detector to identify gay students and send them to day schools. We can’t fall for this discriminatory directive and I am sure someone will move to court if what Magoha is suggesting materializes,” Oyuko said.
Another section of social media users however supported Magoha’s directive saying that Africans should uphold their cultures and traditions.
“Magoha this is perfect. These people should be removed from school. We should uphold our culture and principles as Africans,” Nzangi Muoki said.
“No way. Gays and lesbianism has no place in our schools. I support Magoha 100%. Wakae na mamazao,” John wrote.
“Magoha has done well in directing that gay students should be banned from boarding schools,” Nevs Isaboke said.
