When Kalonzo Musyoka announced that he will be in the ballot on August 9 after failing to agree with ODM leader Raila Odinga over Azimio-OKA running mate, he announced that he had settled on Andrew Sunkuli as his running mate on May 16.
Sunkuli was then Wiper’s Narok senatorial seat candidate and had to forego that to try his luck in becoming the second most powerful in the country in case Kalonzo would have won the August 9 elections.
Kalonzo however decided to once again back out of the race to support Raila after a virtual meeting on Monday between the duo and President Uhuru Kenyatta, which saw Wiper get handed several cabinet positions if Azimio will form the next government.
Sunkuli was however not an inch disappointed by Kalonzo’s move saying that he will walk with him in the journey.
During a press briefing on Thursday where Kalonzo announced his plans, Sunkuli went ahead to relate the matter with an incident involving sir Winston Churchill, the wartime prime minister for Great Britain and his long term rival Clement Attlee who was the leader for the Labor party while in the corridors of the House of Commons.
“One day, Winston Churchill was walking down the narrow corridors of the House of Commons and he came upon his nemesis and the pathways were too narrow for two to pass and especially if you knew the body size of Sir Winston Churchill so one had to give way for the other and Clement Atlee looked up to Winston and said ‘Winston I never give way to scoundrel’ and Winston on the other hand just stepped aside and said ‘Clement I always do’,” Sunkuli narrated.
He further told Kalonzo that his move to leave the presidency for Raila was preparing him for greatness in future.
“Your excellency I want to confirm to you today that giving way does not make you a scoundrel, giving way does not make you a flip flopper, giving way does not make you an undecided person, giving way does not even make you a watermelon giving way in fact gives way to you becoming a great man tomorrow,” Sunkuli said.
