A 2009 video of former president Mwai Kibaki has gone viral in the United States after rapper Cardi B shared it.
The video was shared by the rapper on the night of Monday October 4 and so far it has garnered over 2 million impressions and close to 1 million views.
According to the video, President Kibaki was addressing allegations that he had another wife apart from Lucy Kibaki. The former head of state was speaking while at statehouse in Nairobi.
“This is my wife Lucy and I want to state something that I have wanted you to hold dear and permanently in your heart. You know and everybody knows that I am married and I have only one wife and everyone in Kenya knows it. But the Media keeps repeating about me having another wife or wives,” Kibaki said.
Lucy echoed Kibaki’s statement while urging the media to refrain from publishing such false information.
Following Cardi B’s post, the comments section attracted lots of reactions with Kenyans trying to explain the context of the video and foreigners who could not believe a president would be making such remarks.
Lucy was known for her no-nonsense nature. At one point, she slapped a civil servant who mistakenly introduced her as Wambui.
Unfortunately she passed away in 2016 at a hospital in London following an undisclosed illness.
Lucy was withdrawn from the public during the final stages of President Kibaki’s ruling and was last seen in public during the adoption of the new Constitution in August 2010.
Kibaki ruled the country from 2002-2013 after which he was succeeded by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kibaki’s viral video comes just days after Eric Omondi’s video went viral in the United States when it was shared by Snoop Dogg.
The video garnered millions of views within hours attracting comments from super stars like Rihanna, Ludacris, Jacob Latimore, Jasmine Brown and may more.
