Kenya Kwanza candidate Amason Kingi is the next speaker of the senate after showing Steven Kalonzo some serious dust on the floor of the house.
This came a few minutes after the Wiper Democratic leader Steven Kalonzo Musyoka panicked and withdrew from the speaker race in the senate at the last minute.
Despite walking out, the voting continued with Amason Kingi garnering 46 votes which is two third as required by the constitution.
All the senators are 67 and one needs 45 to meet the constitutional threshold and clearly the former Kilifi governor will be next speaker for the next five years.
The clerk of the senate on Thursday announced that Kalonzo Musyoka had decided to withdraw from the race which forced the Azimio affiliated senators to withdraw.
The move by the senators to walk out did not however go well with most Kenyans who argued that they ought to have just stayed ad lobbied for Kalonzo instead of leaving the field day for Amason Kingi.
