Alice Wahome, the Kandara Member of Parliament took action today after the Ministry of Interior withdrew her security detail on Monday, February 3.

In a story published by Citizen TV on Thursday, February 13, Wahome, through her lawyers, lodged a case against Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai for the security withdrawal.

The Kandara lawmaker indicated that all police bodyguards who had been attached to her were recalled and no information had been relayed to her on the reason for the security withdrawal.

In the documents presented in court, the parliamentarian stated that she was neither charged nor informed of any investigations being conducted against her on suspicion of having committed any crimes.

Wahome further alleged that her radical comments against the president on January 3, contributed to her current woes.

“The petitioner believes that the arbitrary action and its timing when the petitioner has recently made remarks directed to the government in respect of impunity and bad governance is meant to harass and intimidate the petitioner from the political stand and position she has taken,” read the petition.

The MP also stated that as a consequence of the security withdrawal, she is unable to effectively undertake her constitutional role to locals at her constituency.

The legislator also allayed that she is living in fear of attacks based on the nature of her duties as a parliamentarian representing Kandara Constituency.
On Monday, February 3, Wahome took it to social media to announce the government’s action.

Through her twitter account, Wahome indicated that the actions were being executed to counter her political stand, a move that stood against her right of expression.

“My personal security detail has been withdrawn today. I have been receiving threatening phone messages and press conferences have been held to warn me of dire consequences.

“My life is in danger. If I’m toothless why withdraw my personal security. Think about it,” wrote Wahome on twitter.

On Wednesday, January 15, Wahome had accused rival leaders who follow the Kieleweke faction of the Jubilee Party of plotting against her life after she criticised Kenyatta, accusing him of initiating all woes affecting Kenyans.
