The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Affirmative Action and Gender in Kenya Aisha Jumwa has promised public workers of a salary increment within her first 100 days in office.
The CS said this after visiting the Nairobi Huduma Center on Monday said that she will ensure that remuneration is done to all the public workers to boost their morale as they work and also reduce corruption among the public servants.
“What is being given or offered to the public servants, is actually… it’s sad and I can say that we have to relook into this issue with very great concern for making sure that our public service, the morale is revamped. And when they are earning good, definitely the corruption issues will be a thing of the past.” said Aisha Jumwa.
Moreover, Aisha Jumwa said that the working hours will be increased to ensure citizens get the service appropriately without any delay.
“The ministry has already commenced extended working hours on a shift basis for the government-owned huduma centre, a contact centre to operate from 7 am to 7 pm,” said the CS Public Service.
“Extended working hours in a number of Huduma Centres, 18 nationally including the one in G.P.O will offer highly sought services from 7 am to 7 pm… Our plan is that every sub-county will have a Huduma Centre but because of the current economic times we are planning to have at least 100 in the next 5 years,” she added.
Aisha Jumwa was accompanied by the Public Service Principal Secretary Mary Kimonye, who urged Kenya to go for their birth certificates and national identification cards.
“Right here we have a backlog of 33,000 uncollected IDs and about 3,000 birth certificates and smart licenses so we ask the wananchi to come to collect them,” said Kimonye.
