Travelers were left stranded for a few minutes after the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was plunged into darkness.
This was due to nationwide outage which Kenya Power deployed technicians to fix promptly.
On JKIA situation, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) stated that backup generators restored power after 20 minutes.
However, KAA made it clear that instant generators had not been fixed.
This delayed the immediate power restoration at the international airport.
KAA however assured travelers that it was at advanced stage of fixing the generators.
“At approximately 8PM today, JKIA experienced a disruption in power supply due to an outage from the national grid. The airport’s backup generators were activated, with full restoration of power occurring within 8 – 20 minutes, ” the statement read in part.
” Our other facilities reinstated their power supply in a considerably shorter duration. The synchronization of the outstanding backup power supply is scheduled to be completed in the next 30 days in readiness for instant backup support in the event of any power interruption.”

Last time the country experienced a blackout, JKIA was largely affected.
This compelled Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to hold a crisis meeting.
After the meeting, Murkomen reshuffled JKIA leadership while transfering top bosses.
At the same time, he announced a number of reforms in the sector.
Murkomen ordered for the immediate fixing of the backup generators which from yesterday’s outage, the works are not yet done.
It is however not clear which action will be taken by the CS following the outage.
