Constitutional lawyer and Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has stirred controversy with his claims that the government led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta depleted the Central Bank and the Treasury during his tenure.
According to Abdullahi, this alleged financial mismanagement left President William Ruto with empty coffers when he assumed office after the 2022 general elections.
Kenya’s political landscape has always been marked by intense debates, especially when it comes to the financial management of the nation.
He argues that the government under Uhuru Kenyatta’s leadership essentially “cleaned out” the Central Bank and the Treasury, leaving the country bereft of funds to tackle pressing national issues. According to Abdullahi, this financial mismanagement amounted to nothing less than a robbery of Kenya’s resources over the course of three years.
In an interview with Spice FM, Ahmednasir also emphasized that it is not solely the responsibility of opposition leader Raila Odinga to oversee the government’s actions and policies.
He urged Kenyans to recognize their civic duty to scrutinize, pressure, and question the government, even through peaceful demonstrations if necessary.
Ahmednasir Abdullahi expressed concern that many Kenyans tend to rely solely on political leaders, particularly opposition figures like Raila Odinga, to keep the government in check.
While acknowledging the importance of opposition leaders, he adds that it is the collective responsibility of all Kenyan citizens to actively participate in questioning and holding the government accountable.
Abdullahi argued that this engagement is essential for a thriving democracy, ensuring that the government remains responsive to the needs and concerns of the people.
Uhuru’s government simply robbed Kenya for 3 years…and took everything away! H.E Ruto will need a minimum of 3 years! https://t.co/C5NvloD1Yj
