“Age Can Not Allow Him” DJ Pinye Condemned For Trashing Gengetone Music

Date:

Peter Chuani popularly known as DJ Pinye angered Kenyans by claiming that gengetone can not be played beyond Kenyan borders.

In an interview with The Standard last week, DJ Pinye claimed that  Kenyan musicians lack work ethic to be able to succeed internationally.

“Something serious needs to happen, these young guys do not want to work…it’s shortcuts all the way, someone like a Diamond needs to come locally and then people realize the work ethic…there is no artist in Kenya who has work ethic like Diamond, then why are we complaining? It means you don’t want to work…”

“People do music for Kenya only yet there’s the internet, the world is so small, you can’t play gengetone outside Kenya , I want you to do a song that will play even in South Africa,” the 51-year old said.

The critics by DJ Pinye have taken social media by storm with a section claiming that it is very disappointing for him to say that.

“We need to tell DJ Pinye and others like him that Kenyan music is awesome and they need to play it out there just in the same manner they play South African and Nigerian Music. We are done with EXCUSES. This coming from him is very disappointing,” Soko analyst said.

“DJ Pinye is those guys who point out flaws but offer no solutions. Hiyo miaka yote amekuwa music industry why hasn’t he improved it then if he thinks it’s not to standard?” Duke Silver wrote.

“DJ Pinye we wacha zako kuhusu gengetone bana.If his age does not allow him to listen to gengetone anafaa kuachia those who enjoy it, yeye ashikilie rhumba. Gengetone brings food to the table for our youth,” Character developer said.

Other social media users defended the DJ claiming that he was right and that he is not to blame for lack of creativity among artists.

“Gengetone was promoting rape, drug abuse, robbery and thuggery. Gengetone is exactly where it belongs, in the grave. DJ Pinye is right,” Collins Corelaw said.

“Kenya has real artists who compose marvelous music..but this gengetone genre is just a Nairobi thing, they should look beyond our region. Stop roasting Dj Pinye,it’s not his blame that they aren’t creative,” Naya Biggie’s comment read.

Some however asked him to listen to projects of music  producer Motif Di Don  before discussing Kenyan music.
